Chapter 35
20 After all this, when Josiah had established the House, Neco king of Egypt went up to fight at Carchemish on the Euphrates, and Josiah went out to meet him. 21 And he sent messengers to him, saying, "What have I to do with you, king of Judah? You are not coming against me today, for God has said to hurry me. Cease opposing God, who is with me, lest he destroy you." 22 And Josiah did not turn his face from him, but he disguised himself to fight him, and he did not listen to the words of Neco from the mouth of God, and he came to fight in the valley of Megiddo. 23 And the archers shot at King Josiah, and the king said to his servants, "Carry me away, for I am badly wounded." 24 And his servants took him from the chariot and put him in the second chariot that was his, and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died and was buried in the graves of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah. 25 And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah. And all the singing men and the singing women spoke of Josiah in their laments to this day, and they made them an ordinance in Israel; and behold, they are written in the Laments. 26 And the rest of the words of Josiah and his steadfast loves, as they are written in the Torah of the LORD. 27 And his words, the first and the last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
